Have you noticed a lot more pores on your face lately? Pores are little openings or pit-like features that appear on the skin surface. As the skin loses its elasticity and you age, pores can make your face look a bit dull and lifeless. If you’ve got skin that’s on the oilier side, you might have this problem, because of excessive sebum production. Pores can also result in blackheads and acne, or become enlarged and stretch, which makes them more visible. While getting pores on your skin is quite natural (and when they’re not enlarged, they help keep the skin hydrated) and just another thing to deal with, there are plenty of at-home remedies to help you out.
1) Aloe vera
Aloe vera has so many health benefits when it comes to skin, and this is another one of many. Extract the gel from aloe vera leaves and massage it onto your skin. You can keep it there for about ten or fifteen minutes and wash it off with warm water. It helps to hydrate, nourish and cleanse the skin, and unclogs the pores. It works as a great natural remedy.
2) Banana peel
Bananas are great with your morning meal, but the peel is also very useful. It’s rich in an antioxidant called lutein which nourishes the skin, and also has potassium, which helps make your skin look better. Peel a banana and rub the peel on your skin for about fifteen minutes, then rinse with cold water.
Try and make up a cleanser that contains rice or jojoba beads. It can be a very gentle exfoliator, and our skin has lots of dead cells on the surface which can be potentially dangerous. Using a rice-based cleanser can be very good for decreasing pores and you can use it every day, because it won’t cause any damage.
4) Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar has lots of uses for health-related issues. Dilute some in water and then use some cotton to apply it on your face. Let it air dry. It can help to shrink your pores and it also acts as a natural toner for your skin. It can help to reduce signs of ageing and inflammation as well. A very useful thing to have lying around the house!
5) Baking soda
Mix together some baking soda and water, and massage the paste into your skin. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of baking soda will remove impurities and make your skin look fresher and cleaner. It will also help maintain its pH balance. Wash the mixture off with cold water and use it once every three or four days.
6) Seaweed and honey
If you can get hold of some seaweed powder, add some honey to it and make a clay mask. The paste will get rid of impurities on the skin and honey is antibacterial and can reduce acne. You can add some essential oils to the mask and make it a proper face mask treatment.
Slice up some cucumber and blend it, and add some lemon juice too. Apply the mixture to your face and leave it for around fifteen minutes. You can rinse it off with cold water. It helps to improve the texture of your skin and also reduces open pores. It makes your skin look much more youthful as well.
8) Papaya, honey, and lemon juice
Ripe papaya is a very good toner and helps to tighten the pores. You can use half a papaya, without the seeds and pulp, and lemon juice and honey. Apply it and let it sit for ten minutes, then rinse it off. The papaya is a good exfoliator and removes impurities, the honey is good for its antibacterial properties, and lemon juice acts as an acid.
Yogurt can help tighten pores and reduce imperfections and blemishes, thanks to the presence of lactic acid. Lactic acid also helps to get rid of impurities. Apply some plain yogurt and leave it on for about twenty minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water. You can do this about twice a week and see a difference.
Turmeric is an antibacterial agent, but it also reduces inflammation and swelling around your pores. It kills the bacteria in pores. Use a spoonful and mix it with a little water, apply the paste to your face and then wash it off with cold water.
