What is almond milk?

Almond milk is gaining wide popularity recently. It is a nutritious, low-calorie drink that is mostly famous amongst the vegan. It is dairy-free that makes it a vegan’s preference. It is also good for those who are allergic to dairy and those who have lactose intolerance. This may not come from any living organism, but we still call them milk. You may wonder how on earth can something as dry as a nut produce milk?

Making almond milk at home is very simple.

Direction to make almond milk: Soak the almonds in water for a night, then grind the almonds with a very little amount of water in the grinder. After blending, it is filtered. You can use a cloth to filter the liquid out. This liquid looks exactly like milk and hence called almond milk. It has a nutty flavor in it that is much loved by the people nowadays.

Is almond milk healthy

This is not the healthiest among the plant-based beverages, because there are many such plant-based beverages with the same rank as almond milk, so this is hard to say if it is the healthiest. But, for a great percentage, it is definitely one of the best nut milk that you can have.

Let us look into the nutrient cottage of it.

In one cup(240 ml) of almond milk, you will find the following nutrients with weights:

  • Calories: 39
  • Fat: 3 grams
  • Protein: 1 gram
  • Carbs: 3.5 grams
  • Fiber: 0.5 grams
  • Calcium: 24% of the Daily Value (DV)
  • Potassium: 4% of the DV
  • Vitamin D: 18% of the DV
  • Vitamin E: 110% of the DV

Here are some of the reasons that will help me support my conclusion of ‘almond milk; healthy for you’:

Low in calories

Almond milk is much lesser in calorie content than dairy milk. This may be really confusing because of the fact that almonds are considered high in calories and fat. However, because of the way almond milk is made only a few portions of the almond are present in the final product.  They are a good source of food for those who are desiring to cut calories and lose weight.

Low in sugar

Homemade almond milk or unsweetened almond milk contains very little carbohydrates in them. They are the best sugar intake reduction remedy for diabetic people. Also, all those who update their bio as health-conscious freaks should be using this nutty milk in order to stay fit and fine.

Note: if you buy it from any store, be sure to check the ingredients, because sweetened almond milk contains added sugar which will act as a sugar intake increment rather than decrements.

High in vitamin E

You may spend pennies on buying vitamin E capsules and rub them all over your face, so what do you think will the result be if you consume something that is rich in vitamin E? Well I love this ingredient and so I’m a regular customer of almond milk.

For information, you should know that vitamin E benefits your brain health which improves your mental performance. It also acts as a demotivate of Alzheimer’s disease.

Enriched with a good amount of calcium

You may be aware that milk and other dairy products contain a huge amount of calcium in them. Only a single cup of milk provides 28% of your overall calcium intake, contrary to this, one cup of almond milk provides with just 7% of the calcium. To cover this up, the manufacturers of almond milk add a certain level of calcium so the consumers of almond milk do not lose such an important protein.

Very easy to add to your diet

Dairy milk can be replaced with it in almost every way. Some of the ways in which you can consume the nutty milk are:

  • Consuming as a refreshing and nutrition providing drink
  • You can pour and have them with cereal, oats, etc
  • Add them to homemade almond yogurt
  • Homemade ice-creams
  • Ingredient while preparing chicken, soup, and other such dressings.

Stating the conclusion, it is a gem with great amounts of proteins and health benefits and therefore I would categorize this milk under the healthy category. Additionally, it is best for those with lactose intolerance and dairy allergy.

You can also consume them in every possible way that you use dairy milk. Now it is totally up to you whether you want to give this nutty milk a try or not.
